Let me be real with you.

If someone ever wrote a guide on “how to be a normal German,” I’d be the soggy page they ripped out and forgot about. I'm quirky, love to dance (even worked as a belly dancer for a while), always with a smile on my face, and married to a passionate Latino. My husband - who is the Art Director of MerMapp - and I are basically digital mer-nomads, working what feels like two full-time jobs building MerMapp — our dream and community — from airport lounges, jungle cafés, saltwater coves, and wherever the WiFi gods allow.

And you know what?

We love it that way.

We’ve never fit into neat boxes. And I know a lot of you haven’t either. Whether it's your lifestyle, your identity, your dreams, your queerness, your neurodivergence, or just your beautifully quirky heart — this post is for you. Especially this Pride Month, I want to remind you of one very important truth:

You belong.

And not just anywhere. You belong here, with us, in the water — and in MerMapp.

🌈 Pride Is More Than a Month — It’s Visibility, Joy, and Real Community

Pride Month is a time of parades and rainbows and celebration. But it’s also about something deeper: being seen.

And let’s be honest, being seen — truly seen — can feel terrifying if you've been judged, bullied, or misunderstood for being your true self.

So let me say this as loud as Triton’s trident can carry:

At MerMapp, you’re not “too much.” You’re not “too weird.” You’re not alone.

This app was built to help you find your people. Your pod. Your fellow deep-feeling, ocean-obsessed, sparkle-hearted humans who just want to be their full selves — fins and all.

🧂 Why Big Social Media Isn’t Always Safe for Small-Scale Magic

Let’s talk real talk.

Posting a mermaid pic on a big platform like Instagram or TikTok can feel like throwing chum in shark-infested waters.

Sure, your friends might cheer you on — but then come the trolls, the creepy DMs, the “what the hell is this” comments from people who don’t get it and don’t care to try.

And that’s if the algorithm even lets your post be seen.

But guess what? You deserve better.

🐬 Living Outside the Box Makes You the Blueprint

MerMapp isn’t about fixing anyone. It’s about connecting us all.

Whether you’re:

  • A queer mermaid looking for other LGBTQ+ fins to swim with

  • A disabled mermaid who wants adaptive swim spaces

  • A shy mer who doesn’t know how to find others

  • A free spirit who wants to build a pod from scratch

  • Just someone who loves the ocean and wants a judgment-free place to share

We’re here. We’ve built the space. And we’re waiting for you to swim in.

✨ You Don’t Need to Change — You Just Need to Connect

There’s something about slipping into a tail that feels like you’re shedding society’s expectations right along with your pants.

You become a creature of freedom. Of flow. Of play. And maybe for the first time, your body feels like home.

That’s why so many of us who’ve felt different all our lives — LGBTQ+ folks, weird kids, neurospicy creatives, dreamers, late bloomers — are drawn to mermaiding. It’s not just a hobby. It’s a full-body, saltwater, zero-judgment kind of self-expression.

It’s transformation. Reclamation. Celebration.

And no matter what fin you flap in, you’re one of us.

🧜‍♀️ Mermaiding Was Made for Misfits (And That’s a Compliment)

Here’s the thing: diversity isn’t just a buzzword for us.

It’s the literal lifeblood of the ocean. Of this app. Of this community.

Every unique identity, every unusual life path, every nontraditional family or chosen family or deep soul in a tail — you make this space better just by being here.

So if you've ever felt like an outlier, consider this your reminder:

You’re not broken. You’re a blueprint for the future.

🌟 Final Thoughts from Me, Corinna

MerMapp is more than an app. It’s a current of connection.

And as someone who’s lived a life far outside the 9-to-5, beige-wall, traditional-box world, I know how lonely it can feel when you’re swimming upstream. But here? You’re not alone.

Here, you’re part of a global pod.

One tail flip at a time, we’re building a world where being “too different” just means you’re about to make a real splash.

So grab your fins. Get the app. Let’s light up the map — and make the ocean the most inclusive, joyful, connected space on earth.

With all my heart and tail,
Corinna

🌊 MerMapp: A Digital Lagoon Where You’re Safe to Shine

When we built MerMapp, we weren’t just thinking about features — we were thinking about feelings.

  • Feeling safe.

  • Feeling celebrated.

  • Feeling like you don’t have to explain yourself to be accepted.

Here’s how we do that:

🗺 The MerMap: Find Your People, Literally

Want to know where other mermaids, (free)divers, or ocean lovers are? Just open the map and look around. You’ll see real profiles of real people who love what you love. And you can connect with them instantly.

(Yes, even if you live in a small town or far-flung island. We’re everywhere.)

💬 In-App Chat: Real Conversations, Real Humans

Our chat is for verified mers only. That means no bots, no trolls, no creeps. Just people who are here for the same reason you are: to connect, share, and splash some joy around.

🧵 Discord (Until the In-App Forum Launches!)

Until our in-app community forum goes live, we’ve got a vibrant, friendly Discord server. Multiple channels, topic threads, support groups, event planning, mental health check-ins — it’s all there. And you’re invited.
